The good old british SU. Fitted to 90% of pommy cars. The HS & the HIF soon became a very popular after market performance add-on to just about any engine you can think of. The SU is a very simple constant depression carburettor with very few parts. They are easy to tune as a single unit but require very good linkages when fitted as multiples so that each carb delivers the same precise quantities of fuel through each carb. A good quality air flow meter is essential for setting up multiple SU carburettors. It is a myth that a stethoscope is able to be used to get perfect synchronisation between carbs.
